PURPOSE:To hold an inner tube at a given position in an outer tube by a method wherein the inner tube, passing liquid to be cooled or to be heated and having a circular section, is fitted into the outer tube, passing refrigerant and having substantially an elliptical section, so that the inner tube is inscribed and contacted closely to said outer tube. CONSTITUTION:An inner tube 2 is contacted closely with an outer tube 1 at the contacting part thereof, therefore, heat flux of liquid to be cooled or heated, which flows through the inside of the inner tube is transferred to refrigerant 4 from the outer peripheral surface of the inner tube 2 as well as the inner peripheral surface of the outer tube 1 contacting with the outer peripheral surface of the inner tube 2. Accordingly, heat transfer area of the side of the refrigerant 4 is increased remarkably and heat transfer characteristics may be improved. On the other hand, the inner tube 2, having a circular section, is arranged so as to be inscribed to the outer tube 1, having an elliptical section, whereby the movement of the inner tube 2 is restricted and the inner tube 2 may be held at a given position surely. Accordingly, the improvement of the heat transfer characteristics may be contrived further by increasing the flow speed of the refrigerant while the improvement of heat transfer coefficient may also be expected by flowing the refrigerant through the space having a crescent section. Further, the double tube type heat exchanger may be manufactured at a low cost.
