PURPOSE:To simplify the operation of destination input and the operation at sending by recognizing a character from a read picture on a describing column describing multiple address destination information and discriminating a destination telephone number based on the result. CONSTITUTION:When the operator describes a multiple address destination number on a multiple address destination sending original describing column and sets originals on an original platen of a scanner 10 while the described original is placed at the first page, the description is detected and informed to a system control section 11. At the time of the system control section 11 starts the read processing and it is finished, number of sheets counter is incremented to discriminate whether or not a telephone flag is set. In case the telephone flag is set, the document number is incremented, a character discrimination section 14 is started, destination information is recognized, the result is informed to the control section 11 and in case of the multiple address number, plural sets of destination information are read from a parameter memory 15 and a destination management table is generated at each destination.
