PURPOSE:To form a film having excellent uniformity, durability and lubricity as a protective film to be provided on a magnetic recording layer by forming the magnetic recording layer on a substrate and subjecting said layer to a plasma polymn. by using one of specific compd. CONSTITUTION:The magnetic recording layer consisting of a ferromagnetic metallic film is formed on the surface of the aluminum substrate. A metallic plate with the thin ferromagnetic metallic film is fixed to a counter electrode type plasma polymn. device and the vapor of an org. compd. contg. fluorine is introduced therein. The protective film is then formed by the plasma polymn. on the thin ferromagnetic metallic film. The special material expressed by the formula is used as the org. compd. contg. fluorine. The org. compd. is generally liquid and is introduced into the reaction vessel after said compd. is subjected to gasification in the closed system where the satd. vapor pressure is obtd. under and at a constant pressure and constant temp. The protective film for a magnetic disk having excellent wear resistance, corrosion resistance and magnetic characteristics is thus obtd.
