PURPOSE:To prevent a coder from being monopolized by a specific system for a long period by intermitting the succeeding coding processing once and releasing the coder when the quantity data after coding exceeds the capacity of a usable buffer memory. CONSTITUTION:The data IM 0 of an image memory IM 8 is converted into a compressed data in the GIII FAX data form by a compressor CMP 10 and stored in a BUF 0 being one of 4 sections corresponding to channels in a memory MM 5. The compressed data stored in the BUF 0 is led out by a line controller LCA 011 and the result is outputted to a FAX 0. In compressing data, the data by one page is compressed all and when it is discriminated that the result exceeds the capacity of the buffer memory BUF, an original data is split into plural number and a compressor is allocated to each block for compression.
