NEW MATERIAL:A compound expressed by the formula [R and R' are low alkyl or the formula (CH2)n (n is 4 or 5); X is the formula =C(OCH2)2 or COO]. EXAMPLE:(22R,23R)-6,6-Ethylenedioxy-2alpha,3alpha-22,23-bisisopropylid -eneoxy-5alpha-chole stan-24-one. USE:A raw material for producing plant growth promoters. PREPARATION:For example, (24E,24S)-6,6-ethylenedioxy-2alpha,3alpha- isopropylidenedioxy-5alpha-stigmast-22-ene is dissolved in methylene chloride, cooled to 0 deg.C and successively reacted with m-chloroperbenzoic acid and diphenyl diselenide. Hydrogen peroxide is then added to oxidize the above-mentioned reaction product and forms a 22,23-epoxy derivative, which is then treated with Al isopropoxide. Ozone is then blown and reacted therewith and dimethyl sulfide is added. After heating, the reaction solution is washed and concentrated under reduced pressure to afford the aimed compound expressed by the formula.
