The method for straightening wire consists in that the wire (1) is unwound from a means (2) for unwinding the wire and that, in a means (3) for twisting and stretching the wire by means of straightening elements (10, 11, 13, 14) the working surfaces (16, 17, 18, 19) of which are in each pair each situated opposite one another, the wire is twisted in two opposite directions until plastic deformation of the material of the wire (1) occurs and the wire (1) is simultaneously stretched in the region of the elastic deformation of the material of the wire (1). The wire (1) is then wound onto a means (4) for taking up the wire. <IMAGE>
