In order to permit the person or the fragile load to be isolated from the state of the road or from the travel gear, a device is proposed which relieves the body of the person with the aid of an active damping system in the immediate vicinity of the car seat or hospital bed. The person no longer has to be subordinated to the requirements of the vehicle but can individually determine the kind of suspension which is pleasant for him. Sensors perceive unevennesses on the road and pass them along to the entire system. In conjunction with a process computer unit, the said system ensures, in the form of an enclosed operation sequence, that the pulses acting on the human body are minimised in accordance with the prescribed limits. A considerable relief of the spinal column is thus achieved and resulting injury is prevented. <IMAGE>
