PURPOSE:To enable working oil pressure to be always controlled to an optimum value despite of unevenness in manufacture or working environment, by a method wherein a transmission process is divided into sections, and the working oil pressure of a friction engaging device is varied and corrected according to a transmission result detected at each section. CONSTITUTION:According to transmission transient characteristics, when a transmission output is transmitted at a time (a), a line oil pressure PL is varied by means of a load current IP1. An inertia phase is started commencing with a time (b), and after the starting of the inertia phase is detected at a time (c), the line oil pressure PL is varied depending upon a rotation speed NC0 of a clutch C0 by means of a load current IP2. When a formula of NC0 <= a rotation speed N0 of an output shaft Xa gear ratio iH at a high gear step + a constant N1 is established at a time (d), the line oil pressure PL is further varied depending upon the rotation speed NC0 because of a load current IP3. At a time (e), a formula of NC0<=N0XiH is established, and when the establishment is recognized at a time (f), the oil pressure PL is varied because of a load current IP4. In which case, since the oil pressure PL is adjusted to the back pressure of an accumulator, a clutch oil pressure is varied to provide excellent transmission characteristics.
