PURPOSE:To easily remove slag in a tundish and to prevent the flowing into a mold by solidifying the floating slag on molten steel surface in a tundish by charging the material having MgO as the main component and then removing the solidified slag. CONSTITUTION:The molten steel, poured into the tundish 14 from a ladle 12 through a long nozzle 16, is cast into the mold 18 through a submerged nozzle 20, to execute a continuous casting. In the continuous caster 10, the slag flowed into the tundish 14 together with the molten steel is floated up on the molten steel surface in the tundish 14. The material having MgO as the main component, such as dolomite, etc., is charged to this slag floated up. In this way, as the melting point of the slag is risen, it is solidified. After that, the above- mentioned solidified slag is raked up by a rake-like tool to remove from a spout 30.
