PURPOSE:To obtain an interlace video signal even during a still picture reproducing period by arranging one of recording/reproducing video heads to the other while it is deviated in a direction in parallel with a rotary shaft by a track pitch. CONSTITUTION:The 3rd video head 10'b is provided to a position parted by a rack pitch size Q from the video head 10b in addition to conventional video heads 10a,10b provided oppositely by nearly 180 deg., and a signal input output circuit of the video head 10'b is independent of the signal input/output circuit of the head 10b. When the video head switching circuit 22 is in the frame mode 22'b, the video heads 10a,10'b reproduce the track of the extracted frame recorded in matching with the step feeding by the pitch P' of the tape 2 and an interlace video signal is obtained.
