A self-clamping clamping head for receiving a bobbin (17) consists of a plurality of clamping segments (6) which are operatively connected via driving and spreading elements (7, 8, 9, 9a, 9b, 12, 12a, 12b) to two threaded nuts (3, 4) movable in opposition on a central threaded spindle (2). With the threaded spindle firmly braked, a torque exerted on the clamping segments from outside brings about an opposed movement of the threaded nuts on the threaded spindle and, as a result of the effect of the wedge faces of the spreading elements, a radial movement of the clamping segments towards the inner face of the bobbin tube. <IMAGE>
