A floating intermediate storage installation 1 is used, with a capacity sufficient to carry out loading or unloading of the largest existing ships, this installation being anchored at sea above a bottom providing the necessary draught for the said ships 2, 4 when they are fully loaded, this anchoring allowing the said ships 2, 4 to be brought alongside either side of the storage installation.
