Device making it possible to create, by fixing and mechanical interlocking of various sections 1, 2, wall coverings of large surface area with materials having a surface finish which may be as varied and conventional as tiling, plastic coverings or enamelled sheet metal and set up in the factory on plane-supports 3 of given dimensions. The device for the mechanical interlocking of these various sections also provides waterproofing, which is a very important requirement in the installation for example of bathrooms in the home. The devices according to the invention make it possible, for an equivalent finishing quality, to produce wall coverings while eliminating all the problems connected with drying time and enabling the work to be carried out by amateur handymen. <IMAGE>
