To achieve a constant, accurately proportioned dose, the medium, which is to be metered in very small quantities, is, according to the method under consideration, forced into a valve chamber of a design appropriate for the metering volume and is there forced to the delivery nozzle by means of a displacer piston, the medium in the valve chamber simultaneously acting as a hydraulic ram on a counterpiston, the stroke of which, which takes place during the delivery of the medium, is converted into a success signal, whereas if the valve chamber is unfilled, the stroke of the counterpiston does not take place, thereby triggering a fault signal.
