An electrical asynchronous machine having a short-circuited rotor has a multi-phase winding as the stator winding, the number of phases thereof being greater than three but at least a multiple thereof. The multi-phase winding is designed as an open winding and each phase (1, 2, 3 to n) is for its part connected to an inverter (4) with semiconductor elements (5) which can be disconnected. The DC sides (7, 8) of all the links are jointly connected to a DC voltage source, e.g. to the DC intermediate circuit of a pulse converter. The supply to the multi-phase winding is selected such that the time response of the phase currents and/or of the spatial response of the stator current segment, together with the air gap induction, are approximately rectangular. In this case, the longitudinal side of the rectangle is approximately equal to half the period duration or the pole pitch, and the magnitude corresponds to the locking voltage of the semiconductor elements (5). <IMAGE> |
