PURPOSE:To obtain a high-sensitivity thermal recording material having extremely excellent plasticizer resistance and diazo developing liquid resistance characteristics, being excellent in preservability of recorded images and free of lowering in whiteness, by using a specified compound as a color developing agent. CONSTITUTION:A thermal recording material comprises at least one sulfone compound of the formula as a color developing agent. In the formula, each of R1, R2, R3, R4 and R5 is hydrogen, a halogen, alkyl, cycloalkyl, aralkyl, aryl, alkenyl, alkoxyl, cycloalkoxyl, aralkyloxyl, aryloxyl, alkoxyalkoxyl, aryloxyalkoxyl, alkylthio, arylthio or aralkylthio, with the proviso that either R1 and R2 or R2 and R3 may form a naphthalene ring, tetrahydronaphthalene ring or indan ring with the adjacent benzene ring. A base may be a paper, a plastic film, a synthetic film or the like, of which a paper is most preferable from the viewpoints of cost, coatability or the like. The thermal recording material thus obtained is suitable for high-speed recording, is free of tendency toward fading of recorded images or fogging of non-image areas, and displays excellent characteristics also as to adhesion of tailings to a recording head. |
