PURPOSE:To increase the impregnating amount of active material by heating a porous nickel substrate in an atmospheric condition at 500-700 deg.C to form irregular nickel oxide on the surface of the substrate, then reducing the oxide in a reducing atmosphere at 600-800 deg.C. CONSTITUTION:Slurry comprising carbonyl nickel powder, water, binder such as methylcellulose, and pore forming agent is applied to both sides of a nickel plated steel plate and sitered in a reducing atmosphere to obtain a porous nickel substrate. The nickel substrate is heated in an atmospheric condition at 500-700 deg.C to form a large volume of NiO on the surface of nickel particle, and at the same time, irregularity is formed. The substrate is heated in a reducing atmosphere at 600-800 deg.C to reduce NiO which decreases conductivity. Thereby, the nickel substrate for battery in which active material retaining capacity is increased can be obtained. |
