PURPOSE:To vary the form of a luminescent spot from a circular and to relax a jag, by furnishing a movable shield to each hole of a shadow mask, and converting the section form of the electron beam radiated over a fluorescent screen from its circular form. CONSTITUTION:The image data 51 is delivered to an electron gun 53 through an image signal converter 52. On the other hand, the image data 51 is also delivered to a slash information detector 54, in which a slash information is detected, and a shield driver 55 opens and closes a shield 56 depending on the slash information. By opening and closing the shield installed at each hole of a shadow mask 57 in such a way, the form of the electron beam to irradiate the fluorescent screen is varied, the form of the luminescent spot is also varied, a jag on the image screen can be relaxed, and a vary clear screen display can be realized.
