PURPOSE:To remove the duplexity of an image by providing a substrate which faces a transparent substrate at a specific interval and is constituted by laminating a reflecting plate, a photodetector, and a liquid crystal orienting film on the inside surface in order, and injecting twisted nematic type liquid crystal into the gap between the substrate and transparent substrate. CONSTITUTION:The twisted nematic type liquid crystal 28 is injected into the gap between the couple of glass substrates 23 and 27 which face each other at the specific interval, a polarizing plate 20 which functions as a polarizer is laminated on the outside surface of one glass substrate 23 and striped transparent electrodes 21 which extend in a main scanning direction and the liquid crystal orienting film are laminated on the inside surface in order. Further, an aluminum film 24 is laminated on the inside surface of the glass substrate 27 by vapor deposition in a subscanning direction. When no voltage is applied between the aluminum film 24 and transparent electrodes 21, the molecule long axis of the liquid crystal 28 turns by 90 deg. or 270 deg. and when a voltage is applied, the molecule long axis of the liquid crystal 28 becomes parallel to the direction of an electric field. Consequently, the duplexity of an image on the reflection type liquid crystal display element is removed.
