PURPOSE:To obtain a ferroelectric liquid crystal panel in which a twist structure is hardly formed and which shows a memory-like property and is excellent in displaying quality, by orienting ferroelectric liquid crystal by performing oblique deposition using different depositing substances on the upper and lower base plates. CONSTITUTION:By performing oblique deposition on an upper and lower base plates 71 using substances of different polarities, the polarities of the upper and lower base plates 71 are made different from each other. Namely, the polarities of the surfaces of the base plates 71 are made different from each other by depositing substances having different polarities on the base plates 71 and appearance of a twist state is suppressed by making the spontaneous polarization of the ferroelectric liquid crystal molecules and the interaction of the surfaces of the base plates 71 different so that the direction of the spontaneous polarization to the base plates 71 can be made opposite to each other at the surfaces of the upper and lower base plates 71. Consequently, a ferroelectric liquid crystal panel showing a strong memory effect is obtained. |
