PURPOSE:To adjust a volume to match to the environment when a message sent from an external telephone during the absence is heard by providing a volume setting means to variably set the volume of a sound signal reproduced by a reproducing means in accordance with an identified dial number. CONSTITUTION:An amplifying circuit 14 amplifies the sound signal of a transmitting message based on the control of a CPU 5. When a user hears a sound message by the external telephone, desires to change a volume and the user inputs the figure specified beforehand by the push-button of the telephone, the figure is received by an identifying machine 2 and the CPU 5 discriminates the figure. In accordance with an input signal discriminated by the CPU 5, the CPU 5 adjusts the volume of the transmitting message by the amplifying circuit 14. Thus, even when the user sends the message with the external telephone, the message volume from a voice mail can be adjusted.
