Process for treating and for permitting the utilisation of the sludge obtained by water purification with addition of crushed and powdered expanded clay. The subject of the invention is the use of the sludge obtained after water purification, in the form of semi-dried sludge which represents all the humus recovered and making it utilisable by means of an addition of porous matter, crushed and powdered expanded clay to upgrade the sludge, to make it more friable for a utilisation practised with the existing equipment; the product obtained is a mixture in proportions of approximately 25 % by volume of sludge 1 per approximately 75 % by volume of crushed and powdered expanded clay 2; the mixture acquires its stabilisation by means of two periods of compounding and by means of the twin action of air and of the crushed and powdered expanded clay functioning as sterilisation. The mixture obtained by this process is intended for reconstituting the humus, maintaining a moisture level higher than the average and thereby promoting cultivation. <IMAGE>
