<p>An internal prosthesis (10) for use with a prosthesis attachable externally to a residual limb having a bone (37) with a free end thereof. The internal prosthesis (10) comprises bone end pressure distributing means disposed completely within the residual limb and open-bottomed bone end containing means (11) attached to the bone end pressure distributing means. In separate embodiments, the bone end pressure distributing means comprises a tubular, mesh sock/sleeve (12) with a central aperture (44). The open-bottomed end containing means comprises a mesh bone sock/sleeve (14) which surrounds the central aperture (44) and extends up the bone (37) disposed around the aperture (44) and also provided with a reinforced portion (16). Alternatively, the bone end pressure distributing means comprises a radially extending plate (30) with a central aperture (44) around which is disposed an upwardly extending boss (42). The bone end containing means (11) comprises an open-ended bone cap (28) which is formed of two sections. The first section (32) comprises a portion of bone pins and the second section (34) comprises a boss (42) with a smaller diameter than the first section (32).</p> |
