A device for drying loose bulk quantities of finely cut plant parts, in particular tobacco, has a drying chamber which is run through continuously in the longitudinal direction by the plant parts and which is designed as a swinging conveying channel. Arranged in the wall of the drying chamber are openings, through which a gaseous heat-transfer medium can be blown into the plant parts passing through. A number of openings are arranged close to one another in at least one row which extends transversely to the longitudinal direction of the drying chamber in the bottom of the drying chamber. The openings are directed towards an upper covering of the drying chamber and measuring sensors are arranged in the covering above each row. A nozzle is inserted into each opening. The heat treatment is thus concentrated onto a narrow region and can be controlled by the measuring sensors and can thus be directly influenced.
