PURPOSE:To obtain the title composition excelling in heat resistance, moldability, impact resistance and transparency and free from clouding or deformation even when exposed to hot water, by mixing a copolymer of a vinyl aromatic monomer with an alpha,beta-ethylenically unsaturated acid with a specified vinyl aromatic copolymer. CONSTITUTION:97-70mol.% vinyl aromatic monomer (a) [e.g., (alpha-methyl) styrene] is polymerized with 3-30mol.% alpha,beta-ethylenically unsaturated acid (b) (e.g., maleic anhydride) to obtain a vinyl aromatic copolymer (A) (e.g., styrene/maleic anhydride copolymer) of a weight-average MW of 100,000-500,000. A copolymer of 97-75mol.% component (a) with 3-25mol.% component (b) is reacted with an ionic metallic compound (c) (e.g., sodium methylate) to obtain a vinyl aromatic copolymer (B) (e.g., ionic styrene/maleic anhydride copolymer) in which at least 50mol.% of the unsaturated acid groups have been neutralized and which has a weight-average MW of 10,000-300,000. 100pts.wt. component A is mixed with 3-50pts.wt. component B. |
