PURPOSE:To permit stable driving meeting temp. conditions and driving conditions for image quality, etc., and to improve the reliability of a display device by setting the driving waveform of a display element just before the timing for driving. CONSTITUTION:The driving energy (voltage and pulse width) of a ferroelectric liquid crystal (FLC) element corresponding to an effective display region 104 and frame part 106 is compensated according to the temp. from a temp. sensor 400 just before the timing for writing. The stable driving is, therefore, permitted regardless of the temp. conditions and the reliability of the display of the display device using the FLC element is improved. The display processing of high effi ciency is permitted by updating the compensation data in a vertical fly-back period. The driving of the horizontal frame is simultaneously executed as well according to the command for detecting the temp. data of a temp. sensor 400, i.e., the driving command of an A/D conversion part 950 and, therefore, the display processing efficiency is additionally improved.
