PURPOSE:To obtain a picture quality with high resolution by detecting a part corresponding to a transfer clock of a solid-state image pickup element from a signal being the synthesis of plural output lines of the solid-state image pickup element and eliminating the DC component from the plural output lines. CONSTITUTION:The solid-state image pickup element 1 applies photoelectric conversion to an incident light corresponding to each picture element, inputs the result alternately to shift registers 2, 3, subjected to sample holding 4, 5 and the result is outputted sequentially. The output is subjected to sample hold ing 8 through adders 6, 7 and becomes a consecutive signal and outputted 9. On the other hand, the signal subjected to sample holding 8 is given to a gate 10, where an optical black other than the effective area is extracted and a readout clock pulse of the shift registers 2, 3 is extracted by a BPF 11, subjected to synchronization detection 12 and smoothed 13. The smoothed output is fed to adders 7, 6 as it is and while the phase is inverted 14 to form a negative feedback loop thereby making the output of the synchronizing detection circuit 12 zero. Thus, the picture quality with high resolution is attained.
