PURPOSE:To execute a format with high accuracy even when high-density recording is made, by preparing reference signals from magnetized patterns transferred by using a magnetic material of a simple form and recording servo patterns and format data. CONSTITUTION:A magnetic material 16 whose shape is partially changed physically is closely put on a magnetic disk 11 and the magnetized pattern corresponding to the magnetic material 16 is transferred to the magnetic disk 11. Moreover, clocks of a crystal oscillator are counted from the rise of reference signals and servo patterns are recorded at every prescribed number of the count value, namely, at every sector. Therefore, fluctuation at every one round can be suppressed to + or -(<=0.2%). The data recording timing is controlled by means of a detecting circuit 14. Therefore, a format can be executed with high accuracy even to a high-density recording system, such as vertical recording.
