PURPOSE:To measure the passing distance of an object to be measured, by preliminarily mounting metal bodies to the object to be measured at every definite distance and passing the object to be measured through a metal sensor to add and subtract the number of the metal bodies. CONSTITUTION:A long polyamide yarn 1 having a diameter of about 0.3mm is set to an object to be measured and an iron powder-containing epoxy resin is applied to the outer peripheral part at every unit length of about 1m of the object to be measured so as to set each coating length to about 0.5mm to be cured and metal bodies 2, 2', 2''... are formed and arranged to the object to be measured. When approx. 100 each of metal bodies 2, 2', 2''... thus constituted rapidly pass through a metal sensor 3, the number of the metal bodies are measured by a counter 4 to make it possible to determine about 100m of the passing distance of the polyamide yarn 1 being the object to be measured in a non-contact state with high accuracy.
