Known measuring heads having two displaceable probes (tracers) for measuring the diameter of a workpiece are mostly limited only to one measurement function, e.g. to the measurement of the outside diameter. The aim is therefore to provide a combined measuring head which is equally suitable for measuring outside and inside diameters. For this reason, there are provided on the probes (6, 7) of the measuring head (1) feeling (tracing) elements (9a, 9b) for measuring the outside diameter, and feeling elements (11a, 11b) for measuring the inside diameter. For the purpose of changing between measuring the outside and inside diameter and vice versa, the entire measuring head is given a correspondingly positionally variable construction. For example, the measuring head can be pivoted about a pivoting axis (S) from one measuring position (A) into another measuring position (B). The measuring head is suitable for measuring inside and outside diameters on rotationally symmetrical workpieces which, in particular, are produced on grinding machines. It permits measurement outwith and during the grinding process and can be used as an NC measuring head for dimensionally controlled grinding. <IMAGE>
