NEW MATERIAL:The compound of formula I (R<1> and R<2> are <=6C alkyl or benzyl which may have substituent; R<1> and R<2> may together form a heterocyclic group; R<2> may be 5-6C cycloalkyl; R<3> is 9-12C alkyl, 5-7C cycloalkyl, aryl, etc.; X<1> and X<2> are <=6C alkyl, <=6C alkoxy or halogen; R<2> may be R<3>O; X<3> is halogen; m and n are 0, 1 or 2). EXAMPLE:3,3-Bis{2-[p-dimethylaminophenyl]-2-[p-(p-methoxyphenoxy)pheny l]es ter}-4,5,6,7-tetrachlorophthalide. USE:A color-developing agent for recording materials such as pressure-sensitive copying paper, heat-sensitive recording paper and electrothermal recording paper. The agent has excellent characteristics such as solubility, coloring of the compound in itself, developed color hue, color developing property, near infrared absorbance and image stability. It can be used as a color-developing agent for infrared-reading recording material as well as black-color developing recording material. PREPARATION:The compound of formula I can be produced by condensing a compound of formula II with a compound of formula III in the presence of a dehydration agent. |
