PURPOSE:To automatically and efficiently separate the water contained in oil by providing the demister of specified structure in the oil-water separation area of an oil-water separating vessel. CONSTITUTION:A cylindrical partition wall 8 is so provided in the oil-water separation area of the separating vessel 1 that the lower part of the partition wall is just submerged into the oil-water separation area, and the demister 10 of such a structure is provided as a permeable layer 9 in the insider of the partition wall 8 that water repelling materials formed with a large number of square apertures, such as stainless steel net type bodies, are piled. The permeable layer 9 consists of 1st-4th layers 9a-9d, and the opening area of apertures of each layer 9a-9d is changed to be smaller as the layer is changed from the lowermost layer, the 1st layer 9a, to the uppermost layer, the 4th layer 9d. The oil mixed with water is supplied to the separating vessel 1 from a supply pipe 5 and the water is separated from oil in the oil-water separation area and discharged from a discharge opening 3 while the oil is taken out from a taking-out opening 4. Thus, the water contained in oil is automatically and efficiently separated.
