NEW MATERIAL:A compound expressed by formula I (R1 represents H or lower alkyl; R2 represents lower alkyl; n is 1 or 2). EXAMPLE:Copper (II) ethoxyethylate. USE:A precursor for producing copper (II) oxide, which can be afforded as uniform ultrafine particles of <=0.1mum and usable as a raw material for ceramics and one component constituting ceramic based high temperature superconducting materials. PREPARATION:A copper salt of an organic carboxylic acid expressed by formula II (R3 represents H or lower alkyl) (preferably anhydrous copper acetate) is reacted with an alkoxyalcohol expressed by formula III in the presence of an alkali metal element (preferably Li or Na).
