PURPOSE:To obtain a small-sized, inexpensive multicolor laser beam printer by coupling 1st and 2nd horizontal synchronizing signals of laser beams optically and detecting the two horizontal synchronizing signals by one horizontal synchronizing signal detector. CONSTITUTION:The beam of the 1st and 2nd horizontal synchronizing signals BD1 and BD2 are picked up in tip sections of a couple of optical fibers 65 and 66, which are coupled optically by an optical fiber coupling part 68 in front of the horizontal signal synchronizing signal detector 67, so the horizontal synchronizing signal detector 67 receives the mixed signal BD of the signal BD1 and BD2. Further, a signal separating circuit separates the two kinds of signals BD1 and BD2 from the mixed signal BD received by the horizontal synchronizing signal detector 67. The signal separating circuit is provided in the horizontal synchronizing signal detector 67 or signal processing part, so only one detector is required for the two signals BD1 and BD2. Consequently, the small-sized, inexpensive multicolor laser beam printer is obtained.
