PURPOSE:To crosslink and insolubilize a water-soluble resin at ordinary temperatures in a short period without forming injurious materials, by adding an auxiliary which can provide water resistance to a specific PVA copolymer containing epoxy groups, and crosslinking it. CONSTITUTION:Vinyl acetate (a) and an epoxy compound (b) such as allyl glycidyl ether are copolymerized, and the resulting copolymer is saponified to obtain a water-soluble copolymer (A) having structural units containing an epoxy group of the formula (wherein R1 is H or CH3; R2-4 are each H or alkyl; n1 is 1 or 2; and n2 is 1-3) and vinyl alcohol structural units. Then, to 100pts.wt. component (A) is added 0.01-20pts.wt. auxiliary (B) which can provide water resistance and comprises a curing agent (c) (e.g., diethylaminopropylamine) for epoxy resins and/or a curing catalyst (d) (e.g., trimetylamine), and the mixture is reacted in a state of an aqueous solution or dispersion at room temperature for several hours - one week to crosslink and insolubilize.
