1,066,834. Fuel injection pumps. V.D. ROOSA. July 6, 1964 [July 12, 1963], No. 27821/64. Headings F1A and F1B. In a fuel injection pump in which part of the outlet from a feed pump 42 is fed to a chamber 24 in the housing 26, which chamber is connectable through a restricted outlet 35 to the supply tank, a further outlet fitting 84 which is below the outlet 35 whether the pump is vertically or horizontally mounted, connects the chamber to the feed pump inlet 32. The fitting 84 includes a spring loaded valve by-passed by a bleed passage. The housing includes a centrifugal governor controlling a valve 52 and it is stated that the rotation of the governor in the chamber causes air to separate from the fuel, the air being discharged to the tank and the air free liquid to the outlet 32. The system includes a priming pump and may include Fig. 5 (not shown) priming tanks (120), which contain sufficient fuel to prime the feed pump if syphoning causes fuel to run back to the tank when the pump is not operating.
|
