PURPOSE:To obtain the title ceramic having high density and high transparency by forming a coprecipitated body contg. a part of metallic constituents constituting (Pb, La) (Hf, Ti)O3 except Hf, contg. also Hf independently, adding thereafter residual constituents to the coprecipitated body, molding the mixture, then sintering the molded body. CONSTITUTION:A soln. (e.g. mixture of aq. soln. of TiCl4 and hafnyl nitrate) contg. an appropriate amt. of at least one metallic constituent (except Hf, e.g. Ti) constituting (Pb, La) (Hf, Ti)O2 (abbreviated to PLHT hereunder), but contg. also Hf independently, is prepd. and allowed to react with a soln. (e.g. aq. ammonia) for forming precipitate to form a coprecipitated body, and the coprecipitated body is dried and calcined at 700-1,300 deg.C to prepare thus a powdery product having submicron particle size contg. scarcely agglomerates. Then, the powdery product is mixed with a compd. consisting of residual constituents of a compsn. for an aimed PLHT, and the mixture is calcined at 500-1,300 deg.C and obtd. powdery product is molded. Obtd. molded product is sintered at 1,000-1,300 deg.C to prepare thus the title PLHT.
