PURPOSE:To improve property of loading an automatic transmission on a vehicle, by a method wherein the piston of an outer disc brake is situated away from a clutch plate, and the press force of a piston is transmitted to the clutch plate through a press force transmitting member extended through a one-way clutch. CONSTITUTION:When an oil pressure is exerted on a piston 26 to move the piston 26 leftward, a press force transmitting member 40 is also similarly moved leftward, and a press force is exerted on clutch plates 14 and 18. This constitution forces a rotary drum 16 to be constrained in a rotation direction by means of a friction force between the two clutch plates 14 and 18. Namely, a multiplate brake 10 is brought into a fastened state. Since, as noted above, the piston 26 is positioned away from the clutch plates 14 and 18 and a one-way clutch 28 is situated therebetween, a space in a casing 12 can be effectively utilized. Namely, since a space for mounting the piston 26 to the rear end side of an automatic transmission is eliminated, property of loading the automatic transmission in a narrow engine room is improved. |
