PURPOSE:To enable a roll gap to be surely detected by a simple operation by detecting the roll gap by a change in the quantity of laser light interrupted by the lower and upper surfaces of the circumferences of upper and lower roll barrels, and fixing a detector to one of upper and lower work roll shaft casings. CONSTITUTION:Part of a laser beam emitted from a light emitter 28 in a downward vertical direction and reflected from a reflecting mirror 29 in a horizontal direction is interrupted by the lower surface of the circumference of an upper roll barrel 15. Therefore, the laser beam led to a photodetector 32 via a reflecting mirror 30 is reduced and the position of the barrel 15 in a vertical direction is detected. At the same time, part of a laser beam reflected from a reflecting minor 38 in a horizontal direction is interrupted by the upper surface of the circumference of a lower roll barrel 16. Therefore, the laser beam led to the photodetector 32 via a reflecting mirror 39 is reduced and the position of the barrel 16 in a vertical direction is detected. Thus, a roll gap is detected. A detector composed of the light emitter 28, the reflecting mirrors 29-39 and the photodetector 32 is mounted to one of work roll shaft casings. |
