PURPOSE:To obtain high-quality printed matter which does not indicate density irregularity in a subscan direction by controlling a printing line pitch in the subscan direction by a thermal head by means of an output signal from an encoder. CONSTITUTION:The subject printer is designed so that an output signal from an encoder 31 provided at an output shaft 22a is amplified by an amplification circuit AMP and entered into a frequency-voltage (F-V) conversion circuit, an output signal from the F-V conversion circuit is input to a servo circuit which makes the number of rotations of a DC drive motor 22 constant, and the number of rotations of the DC drive motor 22 is already made constant. Furthermore, the printer is designed that an output signal from the amplification circuit AMP is input to a frequency dividing circuit, an output signal from the frequency dividing circuit is entered into a density-printing energy conversion circuit and each printing line is controlled (control of printing line pitches) by a line thermal head 32.
