PURPOSE: To provide a method for reducing the carbamate content of a product made from cellulose carbamate by treating the product in a basic solution containing an alkali metal salt e.g. carbonate or sulfate so as to improve the tensile strength and loop strength in dry state. CONSTITUTION: This method comprises: producing a cellulose carbamate fiber by impregnating cellulose with urea; and subjecting the fiber to impregnation treatment by using a basic solution containing one or more kinds of alkali metal salts selected from the group consisting of carbonates, sulfates, phosphates, acetates and the like, esp., using 0.5 to 5% sodium hydroxide solution, thus obtaining the product reduced in carbamate content and well improved in tensile strength, elongation at breakage and loops strength in dry state. |
