PURPOSE:To improve contact between a magnetic head and a magnetic tape and to keep reproducing output reproduced from the magnetic head constant by constituting a system so that a head base can be moved in the radial direction of a rotary drum by causing the attraction or the repulsion of a permanent magnet on the head base and the permanent magnet on a fixed drum when they are confronted with each other. CONSTITUTION:The permanent magnet 9 is arranged on the fixed drum 20 so that it can be confronted with the permanent magnet 8 provided on the head base 5 on which the magnetic head 7 is loaded. And when the permanent magnet 8 on the head base 5 is confronted with the permanent magnet 9 on the fixed drum 20, the magnetic head 7 whose protrusive quantity is set at delta1 in advance in protruded from the outer peripheral plane of an upper drum 4 to a position delta2 in the radial direction of the rotary drum 1 by the repulsion of both permanent magnets 8 and 9. The value of the protrusive quantity delta2 is set in advance so that the reproducing output can be kept constant. In such a way, it is possible to keep the reproducing output reproduced from the magnetic head constant extending over the entire length of the recording track of the magnetic tape.
