<p>PURPOSE:To obtain a variable tuning amplitude of a large selection wavelength and to separate light signals of several tens channels or above by providing a specific relation between the forbidden band width of a distribution feedback region and the forbidden band width of a phase modulation region. CONSTITUTION:The structure capable of injecting electric current to the distribution feedback region and the phase modulation region is obtd. by providing the relation E=Eg1<Eg2 between the forbidden band width Eg1 of the distribution feedback region and the forbidden band width Eg2 of the phase modulation region when the energy of the inflow light to a variable wavelength filter is designated as E. The transmission wavelength can be changed by several 10A when the current is injected to the phase modulation region by forming the structure in which a gain is provided only to the distribution feedback region and is not provided to the phase modulation region in such a manner. Selection of an arbitrary wavelength from the wavelength-multiplexed light signal of several tens channels or above is thereby enabled.</p> |
