The dynamometer (10) has a thin magnetoelastic layer (30) applied in the bore (12) of a bolt (11). The change in the magnetic-electrical properties of this layer (30) caused by the magnetoelastic effect under mechanical loading of the bolt (11) is detected by the coils (28, 29). By means of a specially designed evaluating circuit (35) and a suitable layer (30), a mechanical stress characteristic which is virtually linear over the entire measuring range is possible.
