The invention relates to a TIG welding apparatus with a tungsten electrode (2) and a device (3, 5) for the welding-wire feed, from which a welding wire (4, 6) can be fed to the electrode tip at an angle to the surface of a part to be welded. Provision is made for the welding wire (4) to be fed to the electrode tip as a trailing welding wire from the rear in the direction of movement of the tungsten electrode (2). For example, two welding wires (4 and 6) can be fed, one as a trailing welding wire from the rear in the direction of movement of the tungsten electrode and one as a leading welding wire from the front in the direction of movement of the tungsten electrode (2).
