PURPOSE:To obtain the title brick improved in spalling resistance, thus suitable as a refractory for esp. sliding nozzles by adding a binder to a mixture of alumina material and zirconia fine powder followed by granulation, forming and then calcination. CONSTITUTION:A mixture comprising (A) 80-99 pts.wt. of an alumina material (e.g., sintered alumina, electrofused alumina; pref. containing >=90wt.% of Al2O3) and (B) 1-20 pts.wt. of non-stabilized or partially stabilized zirconia (pref. containing >=90wt.% of ZrO2 and in the form of fine powder <=0.044mm in granular size) is granulated into granules 0.5-5mm in size. The granules are then formed and calcined to obtain the objective refractory brick. |
