Candida brassicae ATCC 32196, (I), is the yeast used in alcohol prepn. by (1) simultaneous cellulase and yeast addn. to a cellulose-contg. material and (2) EtOH sepn. and recovery. The use of (I) in (a) EtOH prepn. by fermentable sugar fermentation and (b) yeast protein prepn. by fermentation yeast growth in a nutrient medium, is also claimed. (I) has high EtOH prodn.-activity in simultaneous saccharification-fermentation, e.g. equiv. to that of Saccharomyces cerevisiae and carlsbergensis at 37.5-40 degrees C, without decreasing above 40 degrees C. Activity retention above 40 degrees C, e.g. up to 42/43 degrees C, obviates the need for cooling installations. High bio-mass residues are obtd., useful as high protein-contg. animal feedstuffs. |
