A process for the individual separation of bags, which are arranged in a stack with an essentially horizontal orientation, and for feeding them to a spreading and slipping-on device which is located in front of the stack in the direction of the bag centre line and in the direction of which the bag orifices point, before the bag is slipped onto a bag connection piece, is modified, in order to ensure parallel handling steps, in such a way that the bags are individually drawn completely from the stack, with the closed end in front, in the direction opposite to the slipping-on device and are then fed, with the bag orifice in front, at a distance from the stack, under or over the latter, towards the slipping-on device in the direction of the bag centre line. <IMAGE>
