<p>PURPOSE: To provide an abuse-resistant packaging for shipment and long shelf-life storage without freezing by shaping a can body by draw processing with diminishing cross sectional areas in proceeding height-wise from open end to a closed bottom wall. CONSTITUTION: A cross sectional area of a bottom wall 38 of a processed product 30 is changed and an end wall 38 is redrawn to form a cross sectional area 40 of new dimension during a first redrawing. A bottom wall 42 has the cross section smaller than that of the bottom wall 38, the diminishing of the dimension of the bottom wall 38 causes the increase of the height of a side wall 44. A sheet metal substrate can body 50 is redrawn from the processed product 48, a dimension of the section of the open edge part 33 is increased by adding a curved transition zone 52 and a new side wall portion 54. A profile of a bottom wall 56 is formed after the metallic clamp for the final redrawing is released. The transition zone 82 on the bottom wall occupies about 3 inches of the sectional dimension at a position which occupies at least 20% of a cross sectional projection of a bottom side wall portion. The rigid sheet metal substrate end closure is used for the long shelf-life storage of the soup and similar foods, and a tamper-evident and abuse-resistant packaging can be provided relative to a container including the contents to be heated by the microwave.</p> |
