The present invention relates to a novel antigenic protein of the malaria sporozoite and exoerythrocytic stage parasite. The antigenic protein is a polypeptide which has, on the C-terminal end thereof, the amino acid sequence X-Gln-Gln-Ser-Asp or the amino acid sequence Asp-Ser-Gln-Gln-X, wherein X is Glu or Gly. A portion of the N-terminus of the protein has been sequenced and cloned. The invention further relates a vaccine comprising the purified antigenic protein linked to a carrier such as tetanus toxoid linked to the C-terminal amino acid through tyrosine. |
